What are
the Tir na n-Og
Awards?
-
Since 1976, the Tir na n-Og Awards recognize excellence in children and young people's books in Wales.

-
They include Welsh language and English books in Wales.

-
The awards are presented by the Welsh Books Council for the best books for children and young people in the last year.

-
The purpose of the award is to encourage people to buy, read and enjoy good books by giving publicity to new and established authors.

-
Over the years, the award has been given to many of Wales's best known authors as well as introducing new authors.

-
The judging panel consists of people from relevant fields such as education, libraries, Literature Wales e.t.c. They meet at the start of the year and select an appropriate shortlist.

-
The English book award goes to the book that is Welsh in feel and flavour but is in English. This is promoted by CILIP Cymru and is present in their annual conference in May.

-
The Welsh category is revealed in the Urdd National Eisteddfod in May. There's a primary and a secondary award.

-
You'll see this sticker on the winning books.
