What an attractive book from cover to cover! From Christmas cakes to crocodiles dancing by the tree, this is a book full of fun and mischief.

Immediately after my daughter opened the first page, she started looking for Smot. Undoubtedly, the best feature about the book are the various flaps to be raised amidst the colourful pictures, in order to find Smot the dog. While she may have been too eager to pick up some of them (!), this is a fun way to maintain the child's interest as they feel part of the adventure and develop fine movement skills.

As the story tells of a number of family traditions at Christmas, and Smot’s mischief amidst preparations for the big day, it's a great way to introduce that time of year to young children. In addition, we get a few rather unexpected visitors to the Christmas party... which adds an element of humour for babies!

The pictures are of good size and quality, which certainly adds to the book's appeal to young children. My daughter also enjoyed naming what she was seeing, so a golden opportunity to develop communication skills and practice some of baby's first words.

She's now something of an old faithful friend to Spot and I'm sure this isn't the last time we’ll read about her fun adventures. 10/10 and on to the next book!
